Before you start measuring your blog post goals (which is what I’m going to show you how to do in a minute), it’s important that your goals are relevant. So if one of your goals is to reach 50 subscribers on your email list and another goal is to grow your Twitter followers by 100 people… well those aren’t directly related and therefore can’t be measured against each other. The most effective way to set relevant goals for yourself is by using SMART.

If a goal isn’t specific, measurable, achievable, or realistic then it’s useless as you won’t know whether or not you’ve met or achieved them so don’t waste time setting irrelevant goals! I’m going to help you with how to create these kinds of tangible blog post related goals below.

Start by setting your goals as specific measurable and achievable. This means that you should write out exactly what you want to accomplish in specific terms using numbers and percentages rather than just writing something like  I want to lose 10 pounds in a month. Rather your goal would be: I will lose 8 lbs. in two weeks by exercising three times a week for 45 minutes at level 5 on my elliptical machine. Make sure you set realistic expectations for yourself so that when you achieve your goal it feels great but if you don’t it is not devastating.

It is important to remember that goals are only successful if they are written down and shared with others. So make sure that when you set your goals they are written down somewhere where they can be seen every day such as on a whiteboard or calendar or even better yet share them with someone else who can hold you accountable to them! When it comes time to measure your progress make sure that these measurements are recorded daily or weekly depending on how long it takes for your goal to be achieved.

For example, if your goal was losing weight then each day weigh yourself first thing in the morning before eating breakfast or drinking anything else besides water of course!

If things aren’t moving forward as quickly as you had hoped, it’s best to address these issues sooner rather than later—before they cause stress or hold you back from future progress. Remember that everyone has off weeks now and then; do what it takes to get back on track!

Time-bound: When do you intend to achieve goal by (MMM/YYYY)?

The more specific and quantifiable, the better. If at all possible set an exact date as opposed to leaving it open-ended. This way you can keep track of your progress easily. Without deadlines, we often lose motivation or get distracted by other tasks and never come back to our original goal. Be realistic! Setting too many unrealistic goals can be overwhelming and demotivating so make sure they’re achievable in order to stay motivated and take a break from blogging to prevent burnout.

Regularly Measuring Blog Goals

Once you’ve set your goals and know what success looks like to you, it’s time to figure out how you can measure that success. Fortunately, there are a few ways you can use your statistics to gauge whether or not your goals are being met. Ideally, these statistics will help inform changes you make (i.e., one of your goals may be improving bounce rate).

But even if they don’t directly relate to any of your existing business objectives, they can still be useful for measuring progress against personal and site-specific benchmarks (e.g., number of pageviews or overall traffic) and give you something concrete to gauge where things stand. Many people are confused as to what goals they should be setting and how they can go about doing it. The most important thing is to get organized! Make a list of all that you want to achieve goals with your blogging business and give each goal a timeline by which you want to accomplish them.

If possible make them SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, and Relevant). As well as being specific these goals should also be specific measurable achievable in some way so that you can really tell if you have achieved them or not. For example, one of my personal goals was to get 1000 new visitors per month.

This was very specific but it wasn’t specific measurable achievable because I didn’t know how many visitors I had at any given time. So I changed my goal to reach 1000 unique visitors per month – now I could track exactly how many unique visitors were visiting my site every month and whether or not I was on track to reach my SMART goals target number.

There are a lot of metrics you can track when it comes to your site. It’s important to determine which ones make sense for your site and what your ultimate goals are. It might be tempting to make grandiose plans but by doing so you’ll end up feeling like a failure when things don’t go as planned. So instead of setting yourself up for failure why not break down your goals into smaller more manageable chunks? It might seem less exciting but it will ultimately help you succeed in ways that you never thought possible.

One of my favorite ways to set goals is by using The SMART Goal Formula. It’s an acronym that makes sure your goals are specific, measurable, attainable, and relevant. Make sure you: write down your goals in one place; break them into parts so they’re more manageable; identify when you want to achieve each goal and by how much; and make sure your goals are flexible enough to account for what comes up in life.

For example, if I wanted to lose weight, I might set a goal like I will lose 15 pounds over three months by exercising at least three times a week and eating less sugar. This is a realistic goal because it includes how much weight I want to lose (15 pounds) when I want to do it (over three months) and how much exercise I need (three times a week).

A few things to remember:

  • To define objectives for your blog, use the SMART technique.
  • Be reasonable with your goals.
  • Know your limits so you don’t exhaust yourself trying to accomplish impossibly lofty objectives.
  • Contrast yourself not with other bloggers
  • Don’t set more than 2 or 3 goals.
  • Track your development and make changes as you go.

Don’t give up if you fail at a goal! It takes time to achieve a goal, but you will!
